At Waverley, we believe that a strong partnership between home and school is essential for the success and wellbeing of our students. We understand that when families and educators work together, children are better able to transfer skills, knowledge, and learning between environments. This collaboration plays a vital role in fostering a child's development and confidence.
Our school community is caring, supportive and invested in every child's growth. We are committed to ensuring that families feel valued and involved in their child's education. We believe that no family should face their child's journey alone, and that honest, open, and transparent communication and effective collaboration is key to fostering a nurturing environment for every child’s development.
As a school, we seek a commitment from the parents/carers of our students via a home school agreement. This outlines the roles, responsibilities and expectations of both parents/carers and the school regarding their child's education. It's primary purpose is to establish a clear mutual understanding and partnership between home and school to support each child's learning and wellbeing. A home school agreement enhances accountability by ensuring that both parties work collaboratively to support the child's educational development.
Parents/carers are asked to sign this agreement when the child first starts school.
Our home school agreement includes the following:
As a parent/carer I will actively participate in my child's education by commiting to:
- maintaining open and respectful daily communication with their child's teacher through our school platform, ClassDojo.
- attending scheduled EHCP reviews (1 per academic year) and parent evenings (2 per academic year).
- engaging with the school via ClassDojo and our website.
- celebrating their child's achievements by attending assemblies or school productions/performances.
- advocating for their child's needs outside of school,
- supporting and extending their child's learning beyond the classroom, providing opportunities for their child to generalise what they have learnt at school, at home and within the community.
- joining us at coffee mornings, parent workshops and events on various topics, when possible.
- keeping the school office informed of any changes in contact details (i.e. address/telephone numbers for families and emergency contacts).
- notifying the school and relevant health professionals (i.e. the nursing team) about any changes to medication or medical needs following appointments or hospitalisation.
- attending a back to school meeting following a long period of absence or hospitalisation, prior to their child returning to school.
- working closely with school staff and a range of professionals to support your child's unique needs.
- treating all staff members with respect, courtesy and professionalism at all times and understanding that physical contact, inappropriate language or any form of intimidation is strictly prohibited.
- promptly sharing any concerns or changes that may affect their child's learning or behaviour, with the class teacher.
- ensuring my child attends school regularly and punctually.
- notifying the school promptly for every day of unplanned absences in accordance with the attendance and absence policy.
- seeking the headteachers approval for any planned period of absence.
As a school, Waverley will commit to:
- recognising each child as an individual and provide tailored support to motivate their learning and develop their potential.
- encouraging children to do their best and celebrate their successes with families.
- ensuring staff members are highly trained and utilise their expertise to create inspiring opportunities.

- guiding students and their families to be successful.
- challenging expectations of the students at Waverley.

Building and maintaining effective partnerships is fundamental to us and we actively operate an open-door policy which welcomes families to discuss any matters, ensuring a collaborative and supportive community.
